TECHNOLOGY
The KARHU Fulcrum technology is designed to keep all forces going forward, reducing braking forces and using your body's natural energy to create a smoother ride. It's what we call the Rolling Effect. Fulcrum Technology provides: Balanced Cushioning, Increased Support, More Energy. The Fusion features a 1/4 length fulcrum.
OrtixFit shapes your mid sole and upper volumes using data directly collected from over 4 Million runner's feet. What started in 2018 with the launch of the Karhu Ikoni the 1st model shaped by ORTIX, we now offer all our footwear models with our ORTIX Fit, based on actual scanning data in regular, HiVo (more volume) and Hera (women specific) Fit volumes. Karhu collaborates with Volumental(TM) and Fleet Feet(TM) create personalized fit experiences.
I've owned some 5 Karhu running shoe's, including the Mestari 2.0. From there, brands such as Puma (Deviate Nitro 3), Adidas, New Balance, Saucony (Ride 17), Hoka (Mach 4) and finally, the LiNing Fiedan 6 Challenger Ultra (great shoe).
The bottom line is that supercritical foams have really helped with cushion and rebound (energy return) on running shoes these days.
When Fleet Feet said that the Karhu Fusion 5.0 might be the best Karhu running shoe, ever, and that the new foam is indeed a supercritical formulation, that piqued my interest enough to go buy a pair, for the HiVo variant, size 10 (true to size for me).
While shoe reviews are subjective, I can tell you that the Karhu Fusion 5.0, has way more cushion than the Mastari Run 2.0 that I have, with a very smooth transition, but also a bouncy/good energy return feel.
Traction is on par with Puma's Puma Grip, and never has a Karhu shoe that I've owned had this type of traction. Still, I wouldn't recommend trail running!
For race day, no, but for an every day trainer, I am convinced that Karhu Fusion 5.0, is the finest running shoe that Karhu has ever offered.
To put this in further context, I am 6', 235 lbs, and this foam doesn't bottom out. I can only imagine for lighter runners, that this foam in the Fusion 5.0, would be even better.
The only thing that I cannot speak to is longevity/durability. What I can say is that of every running shoe I've tried over the past 10 years, this is my favorite of all time. If future Karhu shoes improve even more than the Fusion 5.0, then people might just forget about their Adidas Evo SL shoes.
Regardless, Karhu finally has a shoe that can go toe to toe with any of the big players in the sunning shoe market, for a neutral daily trainer.
