PERFECT WEATHER
The light might be endless during June, but there can still be clouds and rain. However, on this joyous day, the runners were delighted with perfect weather. The pace was kept comfortable and stories of travels, competitions, and family life were shared as the miles clicked off.
THE BEST VIEW COMES AFTER THE HARDEST CLIMB
Everyone knows the second run will be tough with the top of Santavaara (King’s Lean-to) being the destination. The runners will be required to steadily climb 2.5 km, but they are rewarded with breathtaking views overlooking Rovaniemi to the north and River Ounasjoki below.
LET'S DANCE
The evening hours are filled with a family style meal of traditional Finnish cuisine highlighted by loimulohi (blazed salmon) and the sharing of stories around the bonfire. The sky is still filled with light as some runners play darts, others enjoy the sauna followed by a dip in the river, and a few learn to dance the letkajenkka (traditional folk dance).
