“A PROPER INTRODUCTION”

For those who are not familiar with Moomin, it is time for “A Proper Introduction” to the Moomin family, their close friends and Moomin’s graphic design aesthetics. We want to introduce you to the beautiful logo, which was made using letters designed by Moomin creator, Tove Jansson.

PHOTOSHOOT

Finnish photographer Mona Salminen took photos of the collaboration in the world’s only Moomin Museum, which is situated in Tampere, Southern Finland. Original artwork of author/ artist Tove Jansson, and 3D tableaus of graphic artist Tuulikki Pietilä were used as background designs for the photoshoot in this nontraditional museum.

ABOUT MOOMIN

The Moomins are the central characters in a series of books and a comic strip by Swedish-Finn illustrator and writer Tove Jansson, originally published in Swedish by Schildts in Finland. They are a family of trolls who are white and roundish, with large snouts. The carefree and adventurous family lives in their house in Moominvalley, though in the past their temporary residences have included a lighthouse and a theatre. They have many adventures along with their various friends.

ABOUT TOVE JANSSON

Tove Jansson is a Swedish-speaking Finn who enjoyed a diverse career as an author, painter, graphic artist, caricaturist and comic strip artist. She was the creator of the much loved Moomin books. The Moomins, relate strongly to Jansson’s own family – they are bohemian and live close to nature and are very tolerant towards diversity. Moominpappa and Moominmamma are often seen as portraits of Jansson’s parents Viktor Jansson and Signe Hammarsten-Jansson.
